7 Creative Home Renovation Tips for a Family on a Budget

Your home should be your entire family’s safe haven. And almost anyone would agree when I say, it’s nice coming home to a clean and beautiful house at the end of the day. Unfortunately, not a lot of homeowners have the dream homes that everyone wants. However, they do have the option to renovate.

But many would instantly think that home renovation will cost as much. So to help you with your dilemma, we’ve compiled seven simple tips when renovating your home on a budget. These easy tips don’t mean you’re compromising aesthetics and quality, but they’re quick hacks that will turn your house into a wonderful home you love to hang out in.

1. A splash of new paint

One of the cheapest ways to give your home a new look is to apply a fresh coat of paint. Low-quality paint can cost a meager $15 per gallon. Meanwhile, high-quality paint in the US will set you back around $30 to $40 per gallon.

That said, you don’t even need to spend thousands for add-ons and other furniture. Home renovation can be as easy as painting your home a new color.

2. Install various lighting fixtures

If you want to amp up your home’s ambiance, try to install different types of lighting fixtures. Instead of the overhead LED lights you have, diversify your lighting by installing different kinds, namely:

  • Ambient lighting
  • Task lighting
  • Accent lighting

The best part is that you have many options for choosing the types of lighting fixtures in each category. If you can’t afford a chandelier, then go for a track light or floor lamp.

If you find pendant lighting too costly, opt for a portable or desk lamp. And if you can’t find cheap track lights, you can go for any affordable wall-mounted fixtures for your accent lighting. Moreover, a dimmer is an excellent and cheap type of lighting that can change up your home’s ambiance in seconds.

3. Go for two-in-one furniture

If you want more furniture in your home but have a shoestring budget, go for two-in-one furniture. Those are the types wherein you get two purposes from one furniture. For instance, ottomans are great as chairs or footstools. Moreover, a cabinet bed works as a cabinet plus a bed. And it’s excellent if you also have small space.

4. Add more kitchen storage

The kitchen is one of the most overlooked areas in a home. However, this is one of the selling points that increases your home’s value. Having ample kitchen storage is always a plus. That said, if you have empty kitchen corners, try to install open wall cabinets. You can store your everyday kitchen and cooking items here so they’re within easy reach. Plus, open cabinets mean you no longer have to spend that much on kitchen cabinet doors.

5. Refinish kitchen cabinets

And speaking of kitchen cabinets, if you want to give the old one oomph but have a limited budget, then don’t fret. You don’t have to change the entire set-up. All you have to do is to refinish the kitchen cabinets and you’re all set. And it’s extremely easy as well. Just sand them down then put a new finish and voila, a new kitchen look!

6. Rearrange your furniture

Another home renovation method that will cost you nothing is to rearrange your furniture. Having a new room arrangement seems fun and exciting. That said, try to rearrange the furniture in all rooms if necessary.

7. Increase curb appeal

Your front door is the first thing that greets you when you come home. That’s why it’s just right to give it a new look if you’re home renovating. Plus, repainting your front door also increases your home’s curb appeal. Try to frame your front door with millwork. Then give it a fresh coat of paint color that complements your exterior wall color.
